Introduction

Ovarian torsion is a surgical emergency requiring early recognition and prompt intervention in order to to salvage the ovary. Given its rarity in the pediatric population and tendency to mimic other disease processes, recognition and diagnosis can be challenging. Awareness of the symptoms, proper diagnostic work-up, and appropriate referral to a surgeon can lead to prompt diagnosis and treatment, thereby improving outcomes.
