Introduction

Omphalocele is one of the two most common abdominal wall defects encountered by pediatric surgeons. The management may be quite straightforward or complex. It is a distinct clinical entity from gastroschisis in its pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical presentation, treatment and outcomes [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Historically, it has been associated with a high mortality when the defect is large, but advances in the management of the defect have significantly improved survival.
