Preoperative imaging may fail to identify ureteral injuries. Ureteral injury is missed at exploration in more than 10% of cases. The ureters should be inspected directly during trauma laparotomy for patients with suspected ureteral injury, especially those who have not had preoperative imaging, as this is the most sensitive means of diagnosis[1][2].
