Although cryptorchidism means hidden testis, the term is now used whenever the testis is not in its normal location at the bottom of the scrotum. The testis may be visible or palpable in another location. The conditions that comprise cryptorchidism are undescended testis, retractile testis, ectopic testis, absent, vanishing or severely dysgenetic testis, ascended testis (i.e. acquired cryptorchidism) and entrapped testis.
