There are many different types of lung malformations. The most common lesion is the congenital pulmonary airway malformation formerly referred to as congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation. The nomenclature of these lesion has changed over time and continues to evolve. Sometimes this evolution in terms makes the subject confusing as various reports may classify the lesions very differently from others. All of these lesions however may have similar origins but develop in different areas of the bronchopulmonary tree with clinical manifestations that require pediatric surgical involvement.
