Infections of the respiratory tract, which constitute a major source of morbidity in childhood, can be complicated by abscess formation. Prolonged courses of intravenous antibiotics have been the treatment of choice. However, persistent abscess may be associated with significant morbidity and mortality and require aggressive treatment.
