Chronic pancreatitis is defined as irreversible structural damage to the pancreas resulting in focal or diffuse destruction, sclerosis or pancreatic duct abnormalities with one of the following [1]
- abdominal pain consistent with pancreatitis or pancreatic laboratory values greater than three times normal
- exocrine pancreatic insufficiency
- endocrine pancreatic insufficiency
