The central portion of the thoracic cavity, the mediastinum, is delineated by the thoracic inlet (superior), the diaphragm (inferior), the posterior sternum (anterior) and the vertebral column (posterior) [1]. This chapter will describe the sections of the mediastinum and the pathologies associated with each compartment.
