Your Pediatric Surgery Resource

True innovation requires two ingredients. A need and an idea that meets the need.

We are honored and excited to have served as the editors for this latest release of the Pediatric Surgery Library (PedSurgLibrary.com). This release contains an additonal free channel, as well as more topics, media, commentary, and links to more ExPERT questions.

The Pediatric Surgery Not a Textbook (NaT)

The name NaT signals an innovation in content development and delivery for pediatric surgeons in training and practice around the world. Rather than simply presenting information in a linear fashion, the NaT is formatted into modules and learning objectives with links to related topics. In addition to containing over two hundred topics spanning the practice of pediatric surgery, this release also includes high resolution images, links to websites and videos, and access to our unique Exam-based Pediatric surgery Educational Reference Tool (ExPERT) to reinforce learning objectives. Gaining access to personalized NaT features and mobile app download requires an individual or institutional subscription, however SCORE subscribers recieve single sign on access to NaT content.

Exam-based Pediatric surgery Educational Reference Tool (ExPERT)

The ExPERT program is fully accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education credit suitable for continuous certification through the American Board of Surgery. This tool provides multiple choice questions based on defined NaT learning objectives, followed by a discussion pertaining to the learning objective and references for further reading. ExPERT courses can be topic-based, customized, or generated randomly. ExPERT subscriptions also include participation in the Spaced Learning program, which emails two questions (tailored to address known practice gaps) to your inbox every Sunday.

PedSurg Resource

Both the NaT and ExPERT require a subscription to access. However, some information is just too important to restrict. As a solution, we developed PedSurg Resource as an open access site, no subscription is required. Contained within PedSurg Resource are abbreviated handbooks developed by APSA committees, content designed for general surgery residents and students, and quality improvement projects designed to help incorporate best practices into the care of your patients.

In response to our most frequently asked question, there are three ways to contribute to PedSurgLibrary.com:

  1. Submit a photo, video, algorithm, pathway, comment or case by simply clicking the feedback link on every page or contacting us at NaT@eapsa.org. These submissions do not require references but are reviewed and edited prior to inclusion in the next release.
  2. Write a learning objective not already included in a released topic. These do require references and specific formatting, so contact us prior to writing and submitting your content. (NaT author instructions can be viewed here.)
  3. Join an existing or new topic authoring maintenance team. You do not need to be an APSA member to submit content to PedSurgLibrary.com.

Based on your feedback, PedSurgLibrary.com will evolve, change, develop and grow to best meet the needs of the pediatric sugery community. We hope that PedSurgLibrary.com will open the door to develop and deliver content in ways that we cannot begin to imagine.
